here's a creative thought I had while reading the article. Think about comparing darkness to rain. An umbrella protects you from rain, and a flashlight protects you from darkness. However, the umbrella is only of value to the holder, while the flashlight is of use to others in the holder's environment. There should be a device that protects an entire area from the rain, not just the individual holding the device.
